----------- 2007.09.04 | ----------- I'm pretty much ready to start recording the album tracks now...except first I am writing all new material because I don't like what I had before. Typical, right? Well, I found my chord organ and some maracas. Need I say more. In summary, I have no idea when this album will be finished, but I'm aiming at sometime in the future, rather than the past. Seriously though, there's going to be a lot of experimentation going on with very little emphasis on song coherency. This means, theoretically, there will be lots of new and strange stuff on the site and I'll keep the album stuff to myself until it's ready. ----------- 2007.05.31 | ----------- I'm pretty much ready to start recording the album tracks now. I've spent the last 6 months or so exploring lots of different ideas. Now comes the fun part where I try to make this happen on the 4-track. ----------- 2007.04.18 | ----------- Oh world, how funny you are. I've started the therapy stage of the finger saga. I got some wire brushes and a harmonica and things are getting very folky and bluesy with a helping of groove. Song ideas are flowing pretty freely and I'm writing some things that are surprising me, which is always a great experience. That's all for now! ----------- 2007.02.23 | ----------- Four days after my January update, I severed a tendon in my right hand. You could say that it has slowed down the writing process for me a bit. On the bright side, I got out the 80's organ and have been exploring the songwriting process through the stunning visual clarity of black and white keys. I've never had much success in learning to play keys before, but now that I have limited options, I am really enjoying it. Indeed, this time with electric organ will surely find a natural home in my next batch of songs. In the meantime, let there be peace in the world... ----------- 2007.01.19 | ----------- Howdy album news readers, I'm in the middle of the writing process for the new album. I am recording all my demos to the 4-track, which I'll probably use to record the album. Having only 4 tracks has really opened a lot of doors for me. It has forced me to be more creative about how to arrange the instruments. In the past, I never really thought much about how many tracks I used. For example, Mermaid Street was something like 67 tracks. Back then, I was recording to PC direct, using DirectX plugins like Reverb and Chorus. This new process is much simpler and much more creative. To do this album the real way, I have split up the writing process from the recording process. Until this point, I would sort of write songs as I recorded them (with a handful of exeptions). Right now, I am immersing myself in writing and jamming to come up with solid ideas. This is the demo phase. For the demos, I am just recording a verse or two (a couple minutes at most). This is mostly just so I have something to listen to when I go to pick the album songs. I'm hoping to start recording the album soon, but I want to make sure I've written enough material before I figure that out. For the most part, I am keeping the new stuff to myself, but I am also trying to put some jams on the site every once in a while. Good luck in your own endeavors and let the music flow.
